Companies recall more products

More peanut products have been recalled because they could be contaminated with salmonella. The organism can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. No illnesses associated with the following recalled products have been reported.

Walgreen Co. of Deerfield, Ill., is recalling four types of candy: Walgreens bridge mix, Walgreens chocolate covered peanuts, Walgreens caramel nut clusters and Walgreens chocolate peanut clusters. For details call 847-315-2755.

The Kroger Co. of Cincinnati is select recalling butter cookies and cakes.

The recalled desserts were sold at the following stores in 31 states: Kroger, Ralphs, Fred Meyer, Food 4 Less, Fry's, King Soopers, Smith's, Dillons, QFC, City Market, Foods Co., Jay C, Scott's, Owen's, Baker's, Gerbes, Hilander and Pay Less. For details call 800-632-6900.

The products include all packages of the following Kroger, store brand and private selection store-baked and store-packaged cookies: peanut butter cookies in regular, jumbo, decorated, iced, gourmet, mini and sandwich varieties; assorted bakery cookies in regular and jumbo sizes; private selection peanut chocolate chunk cookies; and private selection gourmet variety cookie trays.

The recall also includes all sizes of private selection chocolate trio single-layer and double-layer iced cakes, including whole, half and packaged slices.

Werner Gourmet Meat Snacks Inc. of Tillamook, Ore., is recalling a variety of trail mixes and peanut products.

The recalled snacks were available at stores in Oregon, Washington, California, Idaho, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Arizona, Montana, Colorado, New Mexico, Florida, Arkansas, Nevada, Missouri, Texas, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Georgia, Virginia, Minnesota and Alabama. For details call 800-459-6420.
